Amatörteaterns Riksförbund ATR is a national association with the mission to and aimed to organise the Amateur Theatre of Sweden. The association consists of approximately 250 non-professional theatre groups.
ATR was founded in 1977, and the same year a publishing house was established.
ATR has an agreement with the Swedish Union of Playwrights as well as with the Nordic firm for Theatrical Rights. ATR is the intermediary of theatrical rights for all of amateur theatre and school theatre in Sweden. ATR helps the Swedish amateur theatre to arrange contracts properly; so that the authors and the translators receive their payments according to agreement.
In connection to the work mentioned above, ATR has organised a manuscript library. The manuscripts have been supplied by playwrights and different companies. It is the biggest lending script libraries in Sweden, with about 6,000 titles.
The ATR publishing house helps with advice on plays and makes performing rights available to all amateur theatre societies and schools in Sweden.
ATR also sells theatrical make-up for a low prise, promptly delivered by mail. ATR is also marketing theatre literature in Swedish.
ATRs secretariat is located in Västerås city, where seven employees work; with assignments as membership issues, the script library, performing rights, education, information, arrangements, theatrical make-up, activities for children and young people, and international exchange.
ATR has a good international cooperation with several companies; examples are Nordiska Asp in Copenhagen and Music Theatre International (Europe).
